Discover the valuable cultural heritage of the town of Krk

The walls of the ancient town of Krk hide numerous historical and cultural sites of interest. We recommend visiting the 5th-century Krk Cathedral, whose architecture successfully combines a number of different artistic styles, from Romanesque and Gothic to Renaissance and Baroque. In addition, you can also visit the famous Frankopan Castle on Kamplin Square, which was built by the Frankopan noble family to defend the town from numerous invaders. There is also a recently discovered archaeological site with a temple of Venus dating back to the 1st century BC, which is located in the immediate vicinity of the Small Town Gate (Mala Vrata).

The Early Christian basilica was built in the 5th century on the area known for the Roman thermae, with a clear visible influence of different styles frawn from the Roman and Gothic periods throught to Renaissance and Baroque periods. Alongside the Franciscan castle, the cathedral is the best-known building which should be certainly visited.

The castle is located on Kamplin Square in Krk, built by the Frankopani Krk family with the objective of defending the town. Visit the oldest part of the castle, the quadrangle tower built in 1191 and which once housed Franciscan courtroom as well as, the round tower additionally built in the 13th century.
