The Istrian prosciutto is well-known for the unique way it is prepared and stored. It is made only of pork bred in Istria and well covered with a blend of aromatic herbs such as rosemary, garlic, laurel, etc. Unlike other types of prosciutto, the Istrian version is not smoked. Apart from the excellent taste, prosciutto is protected in terms of its geographical origin, meaning it can only be produced within the Istrian hinterland in places at least 12 kilometres away from the coast.

Maneštra or stew is the favourite dish of many people in Istria, prepared differently in every household. Its basic ingredients are beans, potatoes and the ingredient it is named after; cabbage. This healthy dish used to be the only meal of tired peasant families.

Apart from the interesting taste, Istrian soup is also interesting due to the specific way it is served in a clay pitcher (bukaleta). This old traditional Istrian dish is made of teran or borgonja wine, olive oil, pepper and toasted bread. You can enjoy this delicacy in most Istrian taverns.
